We've had some wonderful feedback on the album, and we've been especially happy with how articulate and positive the bloggers of the world have been. Here are some of our favorites so far (and a big thanks, by the way, to those fans who forward these along to us---keep 'em coming):

Obscure Sound
I Charge Laughing
Rawkblog
More than Milk
Ultra Stimulation
Pure Honey

In other news, we've made our way onto college radio over the last few weeks, charting at #101 on the CMJ (i.e. the "College Music Journal," which is basically the alternative radio version of Billboard). I think Beck's new album is #1, so we're only a 100 albums behind him---which means that if we do one album a year for a hundred years, we will be as popular as Beck! We know some listeners first heard us on the radio, and we're so glad when we hear it (and when fans bother to write to the stations or request our songs---again, thanks!). FPF was also interviewed recently for a new blog called "The Atom Rack." We don't have the link for it yet, but it should appear sometime this week.

Inevitably, many of you are wondering about Kael's "Where You Belong" song (which began as a 30 second Lexus Pebble Beach spot). Basically, we can tell you that a brilliant four minute version of the song is finished and ready to go! However, for a number of legal reasons, we are in the position of having to wait for official permission for its release. It's of course very frustrating for us too, as we want you to be able to hear the song, but we don't want it bad enough to go to jail. We can promise, though, that we'll let you know as soon as it's available (honestly, we wish we could be more specific than that!).

On the bright side, FPF will be playing shows (a LOT, we hope) in Southern California starting in November. We've been experimenting with a number of things for our live sound, so it's taken a little while to get that all squared away, but we hope it's worth the wait.

Finally, for those who already have the album and are wanting more, I can tell you that some wonderful ideas for new songs are swirling in the brains of FPF. Perhaps even by next year we'll have a new E.P.---don't quote me on that, but it is possible!

Thanks to all who write to us here and elsewhere. We love hearing from you!

Lots of love,
FPF

"DYNAMO" Available now!!!!

At long last, the album “Dynamo” is finished and available for download! You can get it at cdbaby for $10. The lyrics to all the songs are here at fadedpaperfigures.com.

It won’t be available on itunes for another week or so, and if you want an actual physical CD, you’ll have to wait about that long too (we’re still shooting for the July 24th deadline on those). But we do hope a lot of people will buy the download from cdbaby, as the band gets a much better deal that way.

To all of our friends who have been looking forward to the release, we offer our heartfelt thanks! A few nice people have already written some splendid reviews (see here and here), and we hope more will follow.

If you live in the L.A. area, watch for some fpf shows coming up in August. More details later.

Finally, we hope to have Kael’s Pebble Beach song available free for download in another week or so. Thanks to all who have been asking about that as well.

Lots of love,
FPF

Update on the Album Part III

Hey friends, you can circle July 24th on your calendar as the official release date for "Dynamo." We wish it wasn't going to take that long, and we might get the album on itunes a week or so before that, but hopefully it will all be worth the wait. Ideally, we'll have a show/release party a few weeks after that somewhere in the L.A. area.

Also, we'll be moving all of the lyrics (and their funky links) over to fadedpaperfigures.com soon, so they'll probably disappear from our myspace blog eventually. Thanks for staying tuned!

Lots of love,
FPF

Q: Did you guys write that song for the Pebble Beach commercial?

So lately a lot of people have been asking: Did you write that song for the Lexus Pebble Beach Commercial? The answer is that Kael did write that song, but it was one of his individual projects for Robot Repair, a music studio/production company (where Kael works for his day job). There has been talk of releasing an extended version of that song on itunes, but it would not be released as part of Faded Paper Figures. We will post a link to it when that eventually happens.

Some further questions you might have:

Q: Do you guys drive Lexus cars?
A: Ha.
Q: Could you guys afford to drive a Lexus?
A: Ha ha. No.
Q: How did John react when he heard the the Pebble Beach song?
A: "Damn Lexus! Why didn't you save that for FPF?"

UPDATE (5/21/08): Talks are currently underway to get a free extended version of the Pebble Beach track available for download (there are just a few legal things to take care of). It'll take a bit to get the permissions and audio all worked out, but stay tuned. Shouldn't be too long. Thanks for listening :)

Update on the Album, Part II

Since our last update, some very exciting things have been happening. We're happy to report that the album will actually have 12 songs, that it will be called "Dynamo," and that it will be released in Japan through Rallye Records. Here in the U.S. the album will be released through our very own record label, Shorthand Records (unless, of course, some other label, like Moneybags Records, comes knocking), and will be available on itunes and through our website (currently under construction). The final mixes for the album are now finished and we are preparing it for mastering in New York, which will be finished in around 2-3 weeks. Oh, and we're sorry to make the songs temporarily un-downloadable on our myspage page. We hope to have some songs downloadable again after we get the mastered versions back from the mastering house. Those of you who have downloaded any of our previous mixes will hopefully be pleasantly surprised by the new mastered versions in a few weeks.

We don't quite yet have all of the album artwork figured out yet, though it looks as though Rallye has commissioned Laura Ljungkvist to make our album cover for Japan (we're big fans of hers actually), and we may also use her art for our album here in the U.S., along with some of Kathryn Knudsen's artwork as well. All that still has to get worked out. We can, however, give you a full album track listing now:

1) North by North
2) B Film
3) Logos
4) Polaroid Solution
5) Future Self
6) Metropolis
7) I Fell Off My Name
8) Geneva's Gone
9) The Persuaded
10) Being There
11) Speeches
12) Red State

We should also have some new photos soon. Band photos sounds like an easy thing to do, but there are so many ways you can go wrong with them. Anyway, we promise to look pensive and artsy, but, you know, still sort of smiley too. And once again, thanks so much to everyone who writes to us on myspace and elsewhere. We appreciate all your comments. And we love you back!

Update on the Album!

We are excited to report that we are in the final stages of finishing our first album. It will have 11 songs altogether (about 40 minutes of music), and will be available in a variety of places. We are just now negotiating some of the business details of how to release the album here in the U.S. and elsewhere. We’ll be remastering (at a fancy mastering house) all of the songs, even those you may have heard here on our myspace--so everything should sound brilliant.

We’re not quite ready to set an actual release date yet, but we can tell you it will be soon--like maybe even as early as May. We’ll be putting up a new website at www.fadedpaperfigures.com at about that time too, and there are even some shows on the horizon in the LA area this summer, so stay tuned!

For those of you who have been writing to us on myspace and elsewhere, thank you so much for your kind words and support. We apologize if we don’t get right back to everyone, but please know that we are reading and very much appreciating all your comments. We really do want to respond personally to everyone if we can.

Love,
~Faded Paper Figures
